Teaching ESL to parents of children
From the Cooledges November Newsletter:
One the challenges we have faced this year is English! Our sponsored children are immersed in Shona at home, and their parents have a low level of education and hardly speak English themselves. And so we have watched several grade ones close to failing without support at home, because school is taught entirely in English. In response we had a meeting with the parents to ask how we could help. This help will come in the form of ?ESL? (English as a second language) classes for the parents and children, and to reinforce our English use in the preschool classroom. The problem in Harare however, is resources. Your prayer support as we sort this out would be appreciated!
