All Work and No Play? (Week 6/Day 41 [05/19/2007])

Again, if you’ve been following the local news in our area you would be aware of the Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment our community has been undergoing as it gathers information regarding the usage of the town’s parks and recreation facilities in preparing a plan for future building and expansion (i.e. Old James A. Magee building and the new arena complex in the works). Recreation is an important part of any growing community and Hanover has certainly been blessed with great facilities and staff who oversee the programs and maintenance of the recreation in Hanover. Today we take some time to pray for this needs assessment that it will be accurate and that the application of the findings will result in continued family oriented and beneficial recreation facilities in our community.

From the Word:

Luke 12:13-21
1 Corinthians 10:23-33

Think about it…

Just a question to think about today in light of the scriptures you’ve read: Is there a point where the pursuit of recreation can become sinful? If so, what is that point?

Prayer points:

  • Pray that the application of the results from the assessment that is being conducted will be beneficial for the community.
  • Pray that God’s wisdom will be on the planning committee to work through this process.
  • Pray that the money will be spent wisely.
  • Pray that we won’t get caught up in a “recreation for the sake of recreation” mentality but that there will be Godly purpose to our play

Take Action!

Keep in touch with what’s happening with this process when you are reading the local newspapers and watching local news. Prayerfully consider if there are areas in which you can volunteer in this process and do so if God leads

For Parents…

Make a list with your children why it’s good to have fun (swimming, sports activities etc.) As you go over the list after you’ve made it, write beside each item whether it is a “selfish” or “unselfish” reason. Where do you think the balance of reasons should lay?
