Do I believe? (Week 1/Day 3 [04/11/2007])
(For our internet guests, the following text is taken from the printed version of the Prayer Guide we are using for the 50 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Feel free to interact by leaving comments on this page!)
There was a young girl who once wrote a missionary, to let him know that she was keeping him in her prayers. She had been told not to request a response to her letter because the missionary was very busy so she began her letter with these words, “Dear Mr. Missionary, I am praying for you, but don’t worry, I am not expecting an answer.” (quoted in 5 Attitudes of Effective Prayer by Bruce Ball)
Do you believe that God will answer our prayers for Hanover in this 50 Days of Prayer and Fasting? Do we expect God will answer our prayers? As we continue with the theme of self-examination it is good to ask ourselves, how much faith do I have?
From the Word…
James 1:5-7
Mark 9:14-29
Think about it…
When you pray, are there doubts that enter your mind?
What do you think we are to do with those doubts?
What kinds of things do you have trouble believing God will do?
What does scripture teach us about the importance of faith?
Prayer Points:
- Name your doubts in your prayer and surrender them to God.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to give you spiritual eyes to see the miraculous in the everyday.
- Ask God to increase your faith (remember what the Father of the sick boy said in Mark’s gospel!)
Take Action!
Have you thought of your act of kindness/love that you will do today? Have you not done something yet because you’ve doubted that it will be received well or that God can work through it?
For Parents:
Ask your children to name some things that they believe God can do (maybe even draw a picture or two). As they share, observe the faith of your children…is there anything you can learn from them?
