Gaining Focus (Week 7/Day 47 [05/25/2007])

I believe yet another dream God has is that we would align our plans with His plans and that we would share the same priorities that He has. There are many decisions, many pulls, many distractions that we face every day. It takes effort to think through each path before us and choose the path that we believe God wants us to take. The choice gets easier the closer we get to God and the more we obey Him when we know what His desire is.

From the Word:

Luke 10:1-3

Think about it…

In the scripture for today we read about Jesus teaching the disciples that there is already a harvest waiting to be gathered in. He urges His disciples to pray that God would send workers to gather the harvest in. How do you think Jesus expected their prayer to be answered?

Prayer Points:

  • ask the Holy Spirit to help you learn and see God’s priorities and what He is focused on.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you align your priorities with His.

Take Action!

Make a list of all the things you focus on in your life. Prayerfully work through the list and mark a number between 1- 5 for each item. A 1 would represent something you think is a low priority to God. A 5 is something that you believe is a high priority to God. In a second column go through the list again and this time a 1 represents something that is a low priority to you and a 5 represents something that is a high priority to you. After you finish, how do the two columns compare? Are there any changes that you might consider making to your life?

For Parents…

If your children are old enough to understand this exercise – do the same exercise with them as what you did in the “Take Action!”. For younger children read the following two parables. The parable of the Lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7) and the parable of the lost coin (Luke 15:8- 10). Ask your children why the lost sheep was so important to the shepherd and why the lost coin was so important to the woman? Ask them how they feel when they lose one of their favorite toys? Ask them what these parables teach us about what’s important to God.
