Praying for Hanover’s “Heroes” (Week 4/Day 22 [04/30/2007])
(For our internet guests, the following text is taken from the printed version of the Prayer Guide we are using for the 50 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Feel free to interact by leaving comments on this page!)
This week, the focus of prayer will be the men and women who serve our community as the unsung heroes. Heroes because these men and women never know what they will encounter on their job and are often putting their own lives on the line to do what they do. The police, the fire department, the hospital workers, the EMT personnel, First Aid volunteers – their jobs contribute to the health and civility of our town. Have you ever stopped to think of what Hanover would be like if no one wanted to be a police officer, or a fireman? What about if we didn’t have any doctors, nurses or even a hospital? What about if there were no ambulances?
From the Word:
1 Timothy 2: 1,2
Prayer Points:
- Pray for safety on the job and for wisdom in handling the demands of their jobs.
- Pray for the families of public servants to have peace that God is in control and will protect them and their public servant spouse or parent.
- Pray for public servants to continue to grow in their faith in God through Jesus.
- Pray for Christian public servants to be salt and light to those in their precincts and fire stations that do not know Jesus.
Take Action!
Why not create a few business cards that you can keep handy to pass out to a public servant when you encounter them? On one side you can put “Thank you for the service you provide our community” On the other side you can put: “I just want you to know that I am praying for you – I’m praying that God will keep you: Safe in times of danger as you risk your life to save ours; Strong in body, that you would have stamina and endurance; Secure in your training and skills. Then sign your name on the card.
