Putting out Fires (Week 4/Day 24 [05/02/2007])
(For our internet guests, the following text is taken from the printed version of the Prayer Guide we are using for the 50 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Feel free to interact by leaving comments on this page!)
What is it that firemen do? They put out fires. Duh, that’s pretty obvious. But that simple answer really doesn’t do justice to the amount of training and preparation that goes into being ready to do just that. Further, firemen don’t just put out fires, they are also often the first ones on the scene of vehicle collisions or other crisis moments and are trained to provide the initial emergency aid in those situations. The danger fire fighters face on each call is tremendous but so is the emotional trauma. My father-in-law happens to be a volunteer firefighter in Owen Sound and I gained a new perspective on what firemen encounter when I saw the wear on his face after he came home from a particularly tragic call.
From the Word:
Daniel 3
Think about it…
Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego were cast into a blazing furnace and yet were not harmed! Why not?
How could this verse apply to the firemen in our community who regularly go into the “fire” in the course of their duty?
Prayer Points:
- Pray for their protection.
- Pray that the firemen who don’t know Jesus will receive Him.
- Pray that all their equipment will work the way it’s supposed to.
- Pray that God will give them wisdom as they train and prepare for the work they do.
- Pray that God will be a source of comfort when they face the emotional trauma of tragedy
