Schools (Week 5/Day 32 [05/10/2007])
(For our internet guests, the following text is taken from the printed version of the Prayer Guide we are using for the 50 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Feel free to interact by leaving comments on this page!)
A lot can be thought of to complain about our public school systems – and certainly in many ways some of those complaints can be justified. Many things have happened that is cause for great concern as we think about what our children are being taught in the classroom. Yet, there are many Christian and born-again teachers in our school system that I believe have been strategically placed to make an impact for the kingdom through their position (even thought some may not be aware of that). It’s easy to complain. But we need to pray instead.
From the Word:
Proverbs 22:6
Think about it…
One of the biggest concerns I see in schools today is the doctrine of evolution that is being taught as fact and the resistance to any alternative explanation for the origins of the universe to be given. A good site to visit is (www. CreationOnTheWeb.com)
Prayer Points:
- Pray for the schools in our community that God will grant wisdom to the teachers and principals of each school in what they teach and do with the children.
- Pray that parents will be active with their children’s education and that the schools will respect and honor the role that parents play in the education of their children.
- Pray for the salvation of teachers and principals who don’t know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
- Pray for the Christian teaches and workers in our schools that God will give them favor in their job and that they will have opportunities to share their faith with their peers and with their class.
Take Action!
Whenever something happen that gives cause for concern in our schools before responding, pray. Consider getting together with two or three other Christians and once a month meet for a time of prayer for specific needs in one of the schools
For Parents
Be active in paying attention to what your children are learning in school. Keep the lines of communication open between you and your children’s teacher. Participate in class events as much as possible it’s a great way to not only support your child and demonstrate how important they are to you but its also a great way to meet other parents and get to know more people in the community that you might not ordinarily have contact with.
