I had a lady call me once just shortly after the slot machines were installed at the Hanover Racetrack. She asked me if it would be okay with God if she went to the casino and gambled. Her question revealed a common dilemma many people face due to the acceptance gambling has received in today’s society.
One of the best definitions of gambling I have come across is this,
“Gambling is the betting of money – or something of value – on the outcome of an artificially created chance or uncertain event, whereby the prize money is not determined by value,

Probably something that all communities share is the terrible afflictions caused by addictions in people’s lives. One of the strongest tool the enemy has in his arsenal is getting people hooked to substances and activities that cause the greatest harm not only to themselves but also to others around them. The enemy convinces them that they need whatever it is they are addicted to and that they cannot survive without it. We must pray against this stronghold of the enemy. Particularly the stronghold of Crystal Meth that has invaded our community.
From the Word:
Proverbs 21:17
Galatians 5:19
Prayer Points:
Pray that God will grant

One of the biggest hotspots facing rural communities all over Ontario is the much talked about shortage of Doctors. Perhaps you and your family feel the pain of not having a family doctor or you have a family doctor but find it difficult to get a timely appointment when needed. Although this is a real problem we really should be thankful that we even have access to the medical care that we do have! Further, we do need to think of the Doctors who do choose to practice in our community. The shortage means that many doctor’s carry a patient

Every community has its different issues and difficulties that it deals with. Hanover is no exception. During this week we want to take some time to focus on some of the major issues in our community, or “hotspots” as we’ll call them. As you pray for these different things in our community ask God to guide you in how you should pray.

One of the most difficult things any parent can go through is seeing their child launch off into the big world and live on their own. Whether that launching off is into post-secondary education,. It is so important that we are available and connect with those students exploring options about their future and engaging those options. We need to pray for those

Satan, the enemy of God and of every believer – has painted a target on our children. He knows that if He can hook them on bad things at a young age then he has greatly damaged their potential for the future. And of course, the ultimate goal of satan is to prevent children from every knowing (let alone hearing) about Jesus.

There are a great number of community groups (some Christian, some not) that have a passion for children and a compassion for helping them with the kinds of things that will support their growth towards maturity. A couple of community groups are:
Scouts/guides/beavers.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Youth For Christ
Sports organizations
From the Word:
Psalm 68:5
Prayer Points:
Pray for the community groups that help children.
Many of these groups

A lot can be thought of to complain about our public school systems – and certainly in many ways some of those complaints can be justified. Many things have happened that is cause for great concern as we think about what our children are being taught in the classroom. Yet, there are many Christian and born-again teachers in our school system that

Researcher George Barna, author of Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions (Regal Books, 2003), stresses the importance of children's ministry by contending that lifelong moral views are largely in place by adolescence. "What you believe at age 13 is pretty much what you're going to die believing," Barna said. Research compiled by his Barna Group shows that children between the ages of 5

The most important people in children’s lives are their parents. It is the parents or guardians of a child that will have the most influence in what that child grows up to be. Parents have a great responsibility in caring for and teaching their children – a task that can often times be overwhelming – especially in the cases where the parents
